Staying true to eating clean and healthy can be hard when you have a full time job as well as other responsibilities to take care of during the week. I can tell you from my own experience that it does take time to plan and prep, but that is why being healthy is a lifestyle… small changes (or big ones) to your daily routine can help make eating clean a part of your life rather than feeling like a chore.
Something as simple as sleeping earlier in order to gain a solid 7-8 hours of sleep will help keep you energized for the next day and even allow you to wake up earlier and prep your meal for the day. Eating breakfast is another huge change for me – after only a week of consistent big breakfasts, I noticed that I was more productive, attentive and energetic than I had been without my morning meals. Think about it… for almost 8 hours you haven’t eaten… and you expect to start your day at 100% without feeding your body? No ooooooooo way LOL (that is honestly the most simple way I could put it… seems silly right?!) Anyways, I’ll get back to yesterday’s breakfast smoothie haha… BUT I really do encourage you to consider incorporating the above small changes into your day = )
Yesterday’s Verry Berry Smoothie was so delicious I made it 3 days in a row this week. A mix of frozen berries (blackberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries), obviously plain Greek yogurt, some OASIS Strawberry Banana juice and finally Tropicana Lemonade. I feel terrible that I haven’t had a chance to share my meals this past week, but I started a new job with HBC on Monday and I’ve only had the time to plan, prep and eat my meals since my drive to Brampton is a bit of a road trip every morning lol… but I’m really hoping to make time starting next week to take pictures of my healthy breakfast and work meals.
After a hectic birthday weekend in terms of the food that I ate, I was in need of a nutritionally packed breakfast to get back on track.
My Monday morning cereal did just the trick… with Special K Protein cereal, Almond Fresh chocolate milk and a sliced banana, I felt rejuvenated and ready to tackle the upcoming month of March. This cereal is another example of what happens when I mix some of my favourite healthy foods together…
Ever since I started drinking Almond Fresh chocolate milk, I haven’t been able to put regular milk in my cereal because the chocolate milk just tastes so damn good lol! There is absolutely no need for added sugar, but if you are looking for additional sweetness, try adding a sliced banana like I did here. Fruit’s natural sugar is always a healthier alternative than processed sugar or sweetener.
Spices are a genius way to add unexpected flavour to your meals. I almost always sprinkle some kind of spice, herb or seasoning on top of a meal…and this breakfast was no exception. As an added kick, I sprinkled pumpkin spice seasoning on the bananas after slicing them… the aroma of the bananas and spice alone were mouth watering. It felt unbelievably great to start my 26th year with a clean meal, knowing there will be many more to follow.
Today was a lazy morning for me… I didn’t want to put much thought into breakfast, but needed a filling fix to jump start my day. Making something was not an option, so the next best thing was a dip bowl full of some of my favourite foods. Greek yogurt would have been my first option as the dip, but instead I made a smoothie that had Greek yogurt in the mix (keep reading to check out today’s smoothie of the day). Dip bowls are also great for lunch at work, as a party dish, or even a mid-day snack.
As you may have noticed… many of these yummy elements have been featured in my previous posts; it’s so important to find nutritious foods that you love and are able to incorporate into meals throughout your day while preparing them in various ways to keep your foods exciting. My dip bowl was packed with fresh baby carrots, sliced cucumber, diced marble cheese, grape tomatoes and roasted red pepper hummus.
So… What’s in your bowl?!
#SmoothieOfTheDay – Mango Fusion Smoothie
Today’s Mango Fusion Smoothie was so thick and flavourful, I had no choice but to scoop it with a spoon. A blend of frozen mango chunks and strawberries, plain Greek yogurt and OASIS Sunshine Blend Fruit Juice made for one heck of a nutritious breakfast smoothie. Full of protein and natural sugar, not to mention super easy to make, it was exactly what I needed to start my day.
